P.M. Kindergarten 10:45 - 2:30

First-Third 7:54 - 2:00

Fourth-Sixth 7:54 - 2:30

Arrival at school:

Students should not arrive at school before 7:30 A.M. Our playground supervisors come on duty at that time.

After School dismissal:

Students are dismissed at their scheduled times and should leave at that time. First-Third graders are not to wait for brothers and sisters who are dismissed at 2:30. Students should be picked up a dismissal, staff is not on duty to provide supervision once the buses leave.

Absences from school:

Any absence, excused (illness, medical, dental or family emergency) or unexcused, should be cleared. This can be done either by calling the school office at 665-8099 or sending a note with your child.

Late to school:

Should a student arrive late to school, he/she must report to the office before going to class.  Whenever possible, a parent should call the school, or send a note explaining the tardiness.  It is extremely important that students arrive at school on time each day.  In most instances, our students are given assignments immediately upon entering the room and tardy students not only miss a portion of that instruction, but also cause the teacher to have to stop teaching in order to make adjustments to the lunch count and attendance records.  Additionally, conditioning oneself to be "on time" is a valuable life skill.  We ask your cooperation in seeing that your child arrives at the appointed time each morning.

 AWARDS PROGRAM

Honor Roll and Principal's List:

Students in grade 4-6 are eligible for the Honor Roll.  An Honor Roll list is published and displayed at the end of each grading period and includes those students who have obtained a "B" (3.0) average in academic subjects for that quarter.  A grade below "C" in any subject will prevent a student from being on the Honor Roll.  Students who are on the Honor Roll all year will receive an Honor Roll Pin.

Students who receive all "A" or "A-" grades for a grading period are placed on the Principal's List.  Those students receive a certificate to recognize this special achievement.  Students who maintain this all year also receive a Principal's List Pin.  The disqualifying conditions that apply to Honor Roll also apply to the Principal's List.

School Letter:

Students in grades 4-6 have the opportunity to earn a school letter (Script "R" and stars) by participating in various school activities. Points are cumulative from the fourth grade and are given for scholastic achievement and for participation in such activities as student government, athletics, music, oral language, etc. 6th graders receive special recognition when they earn over 1000 points during their school career.

Outstanding Citizenship:

Students have the opportunity each quarter to be recognized for their Outstanding Citizenship and receive a certificate at an awards assembly. By maintaining Outstanding Citizenship all year, students in grades 1-6 will also receive a bumper sticker.

The staff at Ronald Reagan Elementary School is committed to encouraging both high academics and citizenship. Students in grades 4-6 to have the opportunity to become Reaganís "Prominent Patriots" by maintaining an "A or A-" in conduct and Honor Roll status. Each quarter "Prominent Patriots" receive a certificate for their achievement. Those who are "Prominent Patriots" all year also receive a bumper sticker.

Back to School Night

Each fall "Back To School Night" is scheduled for parents to meet their child's teacher. This night gives the teachers an opportunity to explain their curriculum and expectations and for parents to ask questions to best help their child. It is not an appropriate time for a conference. Inform your child's teacher you would like a conference to discuss your child, as needed.

    Emergencies and Emergency Contacts:

In the event of serious accidents or injuries at school, students are given first aid and every effort is made to contact the parents immediately. That being the case, it is extremely important that we have current home, work, and emergency contact phone numbers. Please call us immediately if there is a need for you to update these numbers.

    Field Trips:

Our teachers frequently arrange field trips that are intended to extend and enhance the curriculum. You will be advised in advance of field trips, as your written permission will be required before your youngster will be allowed to participate. You are asked to return permission slips promptly as district policy will not allow us to accept verbal consent.

    Home Teacher:

Parents may request a home teacher if it has been determined that their youngster will be out of school for a period of three weeks or longer as the result of illness or accident. A note from the physician to that effect is required. Home instruction is limited to 5 hours per week.

    Homework and Study Habits:

Homework offers a valuable opportunity for the teacher to meet the individual needs of your child. Assignments vary from grade to grade and from class to class according to interests, skills, and levels of maturity. Homework is assigned up to four nights a week with the frequency increasing as the child moves through the upper grades. Time necessary to complete the homework will vary with age of the student, it should range from 20-30 minutes in grade K-3 and 30-45 minutes in grades 4-6. Study habits, hopefully good ones, are formed during your child's elementary school years. Students who do develop good study habits will have a distinct advantage as they move into junior high and high school. As a parent you can help your child in this regard by:

    1. Providing a regular study time on those days that homework is given.

    2. Providing a quiet place for study, one that will be free from interruptions or the distraction of television.

    3. Giving direction, encouragement, and clarification without actually doing the assignment for the child.

    Leaving Campus:

Once on campus students may not leave without permission from the office. This includes:

    a. Leaving to go home when ill without permission from the office.

    b. Going home for lunch with written parent permission on file. One note will last all year, and permits you to go to your own home only. Students must sign out and in, through the office. Students may not go to a friend's house, to a nearby store or restaurant without being accompanied by an adult.

    Lost and Found:

Our students during recesses and before and after school may make inquiries regarding lost articles. A "lost and found" container, located in the multipurpose room, is provided for articles of clothing, lunch boxes, etc. that remain unclaimed. Clothing that may be removed during the day such as coats, sweater, caps, etc., as well as lunch boxes, should be clearly marked with your child's first and last name.

At the end of the school year, all unclaimed clothing is donated to charity.

    Medication at School:
There are state laws and district policies that govern the taking of medication by students while at school.  Any time medication is to be given by school personnel, it must be in a container with the pharmacist's label attached describing the kind of medication, dosage, how often the medication is to be taken and the prescribing doctor's name.

Before we can administer any medication, we must have on file a completed form, "Pupil Medication to be administered at School", that will give us specific instructions regarding your child's medication.  The parents and the child’s physician must sign the form.

    Music:

Vocal and instrumental music is an integral part of our curriculum. In the primary grades the classroom teacher, supplemented by regular visits from the Classroom Music Specialist teaches music. The Classroom Music Specialist spends one period per week with each fourth, fifth, and sixth grades class. Students in grades five and six who are interested may also participate in choral activities. All fourth grade students are introduced to the recorder as a part of that grade level's music curriculum. Our instrumental program consists of both beginning and advanced bands. Students will receive information about band and have an opportunity to sign up for that activity immediately after school begins.

Our vocal and instrumental music students display their talents at the end of each year at our Spring Concert.

    Open House:

Each May "Open House" is scheduled for parents to visit their child's class and see their schoolwork. We encourage every student to bring his or her parents.  This is a festive night that includes a dinner, book fair, art show and entertainment.

    Parent Club:

Reagan Schoolís parent organization is already very active in the activities of the school. The Parent Club will sponsor several fundraisers and other activities during the school year. All funds that are generated as a result of their efforts remain here at Reagan Elementary and will directly benefit your child. If you would like to become actively involved in the Parent Club, you may call the school for additional information. The Parent Club meets in the evenings the third Tuesday of each month.

    Parent/Teacher Conferences:

Parent/Teacher conferences are an essential part of each child's education. Grades First through Third have scheduled parent conferences after the first report card period. Kindergarten has schedule conferences after the first semester. Contact your child's teacher if you want a conference anytime throughout the school year.

    School Site Council:

School Improvement Funds (SIP) provides several programs for the students. Parents and staff elected by their peers are an integral part of our program. School Site Council meets the last Wednesday of each month.

    Special Assistance:

Speech therapy is available for those students that have difficulties with articulation, stuttering, and voice disorders. A resource specialist is available for those students with academic difficulties due to a specific learning disability.

    Sports Programs:
All students in grades 4-6 are eligible to participate in our intramural sports program, which is conducted each day during the lunch period.  Schedules and sign up dates are announced at the beginning of each season.  We have intramural competition in flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, track and softball.

In addition to our intramural program, Reagan participates in an after school sports program that is sponsored by the District.  Competition in this program is between teams from the various schools within the district and is, with rare exception, limited to students in grades 5 and 6.  Students must maintain passing grades and appropriate behavior to be eligible.  Information regarding the after school teams will be announced by the coaches soon after school begins.

    Student Government:

Reagan Elementary School has a well-defined student government program. Participants learn the elements of the democratic process by discussing and attempting to resolve issues that come before the Student Council. The Student Council is made up of elected officers and representatives from each of the classes in grades four through six. The elected officers are President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Athletics, Director of Safety, and Superintendent of Grounds.
