Lunches for the Needy
Lunches for the Needy is a community service project adopted by Tevis Jr. High School in 1993. One or two Wednesdays of each month, students are asked to bring to school an extra sack lunch consisting of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, fresh fruit (apple, orange, banana), and a juice drink (boxed drinks, Capri Suns, etc.) These lunches are counted and organized by the Student Senate and then taken to the Mercy Learning Center in East Bakersfield by parent volunteers. Next, the Mercy Learning Center distributes these lunches to needy students at Casa Loma School, Bessie Owens School, Boys and Girls Club, Kenya Center, Friendship House and Ebony Counseling.

Over 9,000 lunches have been donated since September, and the generosity of Tevis students and families is greatly appreciated.
