Assistant Superintendent of Special Services
Dr. Denita Maughan brings more than 20 years of experience in Special Education to her current position as the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services at the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District, a role she has held since July 2021. In this capacity, she oversees both the District's Special Education programs and the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA), emphasizing her commitment to maintaining high educational standards.
Dr. Maughan began her career as a School Psychologist in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1998. Since joining the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District in 2002, she has played a significant role in shaping the district's approach to special education. From her tenure as a Special Education Coordinator (2008-2011) to her role as the Director of Student Support Services in the Standard School District, Dr. Maughan consistently demonstrated dedication to improving educational opportunities for students with special needs.
Returning to the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District in 2017, Dr. maughan played a crucial role in developing programs and services for students with special needs, including facilitating the transition to a single-district SELPA. Serving as the Special Education Director and SELPA Executive Director before her current position, Dr. Maughan has showcased expertise in managing special education programs, fostering positive school climates, and providing essential administrative support.
In her current role, Dr. Maughan oversees the Special Services Division, impacting the lives of over 2800 students with special needs. Throughout her career, her commitment to equity and championing inclusive practices has been evident. As a dedicated advocate for students, she ensures they are at the forefront of decision-making processes. Dr. Maughan's collaborative approach involves close work with families, community members, and schools, creating an inclusive education environment that promotes success for all students.
