Dual Language Immersion Program

The P-BVUSD DLI program is currently only offered at Mountain View TK-8.

Transitional Kindergartners and Kindergartners may apply.

Our dual language immersion program requires students to begin at TK/K as it requires a long-term commitment to ensure their academic success in becoming biliterate and bilingual.

As the students in TK/K graduate up to higher grades, the DLI program will expand to include those new grade levels. For example:

• In the 2025-2026 school year, only TK/K students will be part of the program.
• In the 2026-2027 school year, the program will include TK/K and 1st-grade students.
• This pattern will continue each year, adding one grade level at a time.

Once the application window closes, the DLI team will review all applications and select students that support a two-way immersion program. 

The student population of this program must include 50% spanish-dominant english learners and 50% non-english learners.

At Mountain View TK-8, English only instruction will be offered for the majority of the school. Dual Language Immersion is a program offered at the school. 

DLI is only offered for students that begin the program at the Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten areas.

This ensures that students have time to develop fundamental understandings of both languages, including reading and writing. This foundation is essential before they advance to academically challenging content that will be taught in both languages.

Siblings that are both in TK & K may register to both enroll in DLI. 

Older siblings within the Mountain View attendance area will be receiving traditional english-only instruction. 

The DLI program will be evaluated for success through various assessments and observations. 

As is standard, P-BVUSD will follow the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education for monitoring and implementation. 

All students are welcome to apply for the DLI program. For students with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) or those in SDC (Special Day Classes), admission decisions will be made based on whether the necessary accommodations can be provided to meet their specific needs.
