Teacher Induction Program

The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District (PBVUSD) Induction Program is a two year job embedded Commission approved professional teacher induction program.  Our program is designed to support the professional development of newly-credentialed beginning teachers in their first year of teaching through mentoring and supportive guidance to fulfill the requirements for the California Clear Multiple Subject, Single Subject, and Education Specialist Credentials.  P-BVUSD also offers the Early Completion Option (ECO) to experience and exceptional teachers.

Enrollment in P-BVUSD Teacher Induction Program takes place during the Induction Orientation. To enroll, the candidate must:

  • be employed by the P-BVUSD as teacher of record,
  • hold a valid, California preliminary single subject or education specialist credential, and
  • Complete and sign the Professional Credential Candidate Agreement

Induction Consists of:

  • Pairing induction candidates with experienced mentors within the first 30 days of enrollment into the induction program and begin the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) process.
  • Offering professional development opportunities to meet the needs of the new teachers in relation to his/her teaching assignments 
  • Building a support network by providing opportunities to dialogue with colleagues and individualized mentoring support that includes an average of not less than one hour per week.
  • Assisting induction candidates to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) that will serve as his/her road map through the induction process.  Goals for each induction teacher must be developed within the context of the ILP within the first 60 days of the teacher's enrollment in the program.  The ILP is designed and implemented solely for the professional growth and development of the candidate and not for evaluation for employment purposes.
  • Providing a system of guided inquiry to assist beginning teachers and grow professionally and to practice and refine effective teaching practices for all students.
