Here at Sing Lum, I direct our 5th and 6th grade choir. Also, I teach transitional kindergarten and 5th and 6th grade general music. I'm very excited to share music with Sing Lum students this year, and every year! We are lucky to be in a district who truly appreciates and supports music education.
I believe that music is for everyone! Everyone deserves a chance to experience the joys and creativeness of music making, and become music literate. I believe in the sound before symbol approach, that children learn by experiencing music first before having to analyze it. Children learn better when they are having fun, so we play instrumental and singing games as we build our musicianship skills.
I’ve always wanted to be a SINGER since I was a child! I used to draw pictures of myself singing on stage with my pet cat as my backup dancer. I joined my school choir in the 7th grade and have been performing in choirs ever since. Given that music was the only interest I had going into college, I studied music and got my A.A. in Music at Bakersfield College. I went on to get my B.A. in Music Education and a Single Subject Music Teaching Credential at CSU Bakersfield. I've spent many summers studying the Kodaly method, a Hungarian method of teaching music to children, which I am now awaiting my Kodaly certification letter from the Organization of American Kodaly Educators.
Music is very much a part of my daily life. When I 'm not sharing music at school with students, I'm usually at home singing and sharing music with my son, Felix. Also, I help lead the congregation in song at my church, and participate in a local professional choir, Meridian Voices.Contact Information
