Home Schooling Options
The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District does not have a home schooling program. The two options available to parents, home schooling monitored through the Kern County Superintendent's Office, or for students with medically related absences, are covered below.
HOME SCHOOLING BY PARENTS
For parents wishing to remove their student(s) from our District and home school, they must call Valley Oaks Charter School (661-852-6700 - located at 3401 Chester Avenue #D - by the Ice House at 34th & Chester). The program is monitored by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (661-636-4724). The Panama-Buena Vista Union School District does not offer a home schooling option for parents within our District - parents must follow through with the KCSOS office.
Valley Oaks offers parent orientation on Mondays at 2 p.m., however, parents must call to see if an orientation is scheduled and to have their name put on the list ahead of time. Normally, early in the school year, Valley Oaks is full with a waiting list.
MEDICALLY RELATED ABSENCES
For all medically related long-term illnesses, home schooling for District students is arranged by the site principal through the District's Human Resources Department. It is only available for illness/injury where the student will be out three weeks or more. All other reasons, such as family trips or funerals, must be arranged through the teacher and principal. Contact your child's principal for assistance with medically related long-term absences.
