Mountain View TK-8

Slide 1: Thank you for your interest in the upcoming Boundary change for Panama-Buena Vista Union School District.  My name is Katie Gonzalez and I am the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services.  I will be reviewing information related to the attendance boundary changes needed for the upcoming August 2025 opening of our 26th school - Mountain View TK-8

Slide 2: We are excited to open our second TK-8 school here at Panama-Buena Vista Union School District.  Although the current location is under construction, we are pleased to share with our educational partners some of the artistic renderings of what Mountain View may look like in the near future.

Slide 3: Mountain View will be located on the southern end of our District boundaries, near the corner of Taft Highway and Stine Road, at 10001 Stine Road

Slide 4: The District is authorized to adjust school attendance boundaries per Board Policy 5116, which states that “The Board of Trustees shall establish school attendance boundaries in order to maximize the efficient use of district facilities and effective administration of district schools.

Slide 5: The initial work for the boundary changes was begun by a committee representing all divisions and departments of the District, as well as administration and parents from each potentially affected school site.  Now we are looking to you, our educational partners, to provide feedback for further consideration before a recommendation is made to our Board of Trustees for final approval.

Slide 6: The factors that were considered by the Boundary Committee, and factors for our educational partners to keep in mind when suggesting additional proposals, include making sure that we adjust boundaries to account for each school’s student capacity. That means we do not want to leave any school with too many or too few students.  We want to be sure that we have balanced enrollment across the programs offered. We need to make sure to consider future new residential developments in the areas being affected. We want to establish neighboring boundaries when possible so that we can consider walking distance and school transportation routes for any new boundaries.

Both current proposals affect Bill Williams, Douglas Miller, and Panama Elementary as well as Stonecreek Junior High School. In all proposals students enrolled at Mountain View TK-8 would remain at Mountain View for the 7th adn 8th grade instead of attending Stonecreek Junior High. Therefore, the following slides will only indicate movement between elementary schools.

Slide 8: The maps used to indicate proposed changes all use the same following format: Existing boundaries are indicated by the background color of the zones that are used to determine which neighborhoods attend which school sites. The numbers included in each zone are the zone number, for example, P381, in the top left of the picture on the screen, and the number of students currently living in that zone. In this example, the P381 currently has 43 students attending Williams Elementary, as indicated by the light green background. As a point of reference, Mountain View TK-8 is in the pink square on the bottom left of the map. Mountain View TK-8 does not currently have any zoned students. And therefore, although it is on the map, is not indicated by any of the background colors.

Slide 9: In Proposal #1, the bold outlines indicate the proposed NEW boundaries of each elementary school affected.  The Green lines would be the new boundaries of Williams Elementary, the purple lines represent students that would attend Miller Elementary, the pink lines indicate students that would remain at Panama Elementary and the black lines are those neighborhoods that would be part of the community that will open Mountain View TK-8 in August 2025.

Slide 11: Upcoming Opportunities for parents, staff and our other educational partners to speak directly to Boundary Committee team members and provide feedback are indicated on the screen. Between now and then, there is also an opportunity to provide feedback and alternative proposals on the District website.  Please keep in mind the factors discussed earlier in the presentation when considering alternative proposals.

Diapositiva 4: El distrito está autorizado a ajustar los límites de asistencia escolar según la Política de la Junta Directiva 5116, la cual indica que “La Junta Directiva debe establecer los límites de asistencia escolar para poder maximizar el uso eficiente de las instalaciones del distrito y la administración eficaz de nuestras escuelas del distrito.

Diapositiva 5: El trabajo inicial de las modificaciones de límites fue comenzado por un comité representando a todas las divisiones y departamentos del distrito, al igual que la administración y padres de cada plantel escolar posiblemente afectado. Ahora estamos buscándolo a usted, nuestros socios educativos, para proporcionar información para consideraciones adicionales antes de que se haga una recomendación a nuestra Junta Directiva para la aprobación final. 

Diapositiva 6: Los factores que fueron considerados por el comité de límites, y factores para nuestros socios educativos para tener en mente cuando se sugieren propuestas adicionales,incluye asegurarnos de que ajustamos los límites para tener en cuenta la capacidad estudiantil de cada escuela. Eso significa que no queremos dejar a ninguna escuela con demasiados o pocos estudiantes. Queremos asegurarnos de que la matriculación en todos los programas ofrecidos sea equilibrada. Debemos tener en cuenta los futuros desarrollos residenciales en las zonas afectadas. Queremos establecer límites vecinos cuando sea posible para que podamos considerar la distancia a pie y las rutas de transporte escolar para cualquier nuevo límite.

Diapositiva 7: Ambas propuestas actuales afectan las Primarias Bill Williams, Douglas Miller, y Panamá al igual que la Escuela Secundaria Stonecreek.

En todas las propuestas, los estudiantes inscritos en Mountain View TK-8 permanecerán en Mountain View para los grados 7o y 8o en lugar de asistir a la Secundaria Stonecreek. Por lo tanto, las siguientes diapositivas solamente indicarán el movimiento entre las escuelas primarias.

Las líneas verdes serán los nuevos límites de la Primaria Williams, las líneas moradas representan los estudiantes que asistirían a la Escuela Miller, las líneas rosadas indican estudiantes que permanecerán en la Escuela Panamá y las líneas negras son esas vecindades que serán parte de la comunidad que abrirán Mountain View TK-8 en agosto de 2025.

Diapositiva 10: En la propuesta #2, los contornos oscuros indican de nuevos los NUEVOS límites propuestos de cada escuela primaria afectada.  Las líneas verdes indican aquellas vecindades que permanecerán en la Primaria Williams, las líneas moradas representan estudiantes que permanecerán en la Primaria Miller, las líneas rosadas indican estudiantes que permanecerán en la Primaria Panamá y las líneas negras son aquellas vecindades que serán parte de la comunidad que abrirán Mountain View TK-8 en agosto de 2025.

Diapositiva 11: Futuras oportunidades para padres, personal y otros socios educativos para hablar directamente con los miembros del equipo de comité de límites y proporcionar comentarios.

Entre hoy y entonces, también hay una oportunidad para proporcionar información y propuestas alternativas sobre el sitio web del distrito. Por favor tenga en cuenta los factores discutidos anteriormente en la presentación cuando se consideren propuestas alternativas.
